I did a little looking on my own. I see a few obstacles, the cost of the equipment for producers, and the need for VR specific devices for the consumers.
I think it will have it's place in the mix, but I don't see it overtaking existing HD video as the norm.

Who knows....remember when people thought that mobile was an impediment and no one would watch porn on a "phone"? I am betting we are at that point with this. There is way too much money invested in this tech. There are Olympic events this summer that will be vr...in fact broadcast in 8K in Japan. The NBA has and will be shooting vr starting now. The NHL is all over it. I think it is way too big to ignore.
